Planning your wedding and wondering what actually happens when
your photographer arrives?
First of all, congratulations! What an exciting time.
There is something incredibly special about being a part of such an important day in someone's life.
I want you to feel comfortable, enjoy your day and be yourselves.
You don't need to know how to pose, and you certainly don't need to be a model.
Whether you're planning a big celebration,
a small intimate wedding or a relaxed elopement on the beautiful Mid North Coast,
your day should feel like YOU.
Here's what you can expect from me as your wedding photographer,
along with a few simple tips to help you get the most out of your wedding photography.
Getting Ready: The Little Moments That Mean So Much
Getting ready is a very special part of a wedding day. There's excitement in the air mixed with a little nervous energy, plenty of laughter and often a few happy tears.
It's also where some of the most meaningful photographs happen naturally.
A wedding dress hanging in the window. Your mum helping you get dressed. Your best friend fixing your hair. A quiet moment with your dad before you walk down the aisle.
I'll also photograph the details you've carefully chosen, most importantly your rings, flowers, invitations, shoes, bags, sentimental pieces from grandparents and family, and anything else that holds a special meaning for you.
My tip: Gather your wedding details in one place before I arrive.
A tidy room and a little natural window light can make a beautiful difference to your photographs. Most importantly, don't worry about everything looking perfect.
The real moments are often the ones you'll treasure most.
The First Look: A Moment Just for You Two
A first look is an optional moment before the ceremony when you see each other privately for the first time.
Some couples love the idea of sharing this moment away from everyone else.
Others prefer to wait until the ceremony. There's no right or wrong choice.
A first look can give you a little breathing space, help settle those wedding-day nerves and create an opportunity for some relaxed portraits before the celebrations begin.I
f you'd rather save that first glimpse for the aisle, that's beautiful too.
I'll be there to capture it.
The Ceremony: The Moments You Can't Repeat
This is of course the heart of your wedding day.
The walk down the aisle, the look on your partner's face, the vows, the happy tears, the first kiss and that wonderful moment when you're officially married.
I'll move quietly, anticipate the important moments and capture the emotions as they unfold without getting in the way.I know how much these moments mean, not just to you but also to the people who love you.
And I'll admit it: sometimes get a little emotional behind the camera, too!
My goal is to give you photographs that bring you right back to how it felt, not just what it looked like.
Family and Group Photos: Your Favourite People, All Together
Unless you decided to elope, just the 2 of you, your wedding is about more than two people getting married.
It's also about the family and friends who have been part of your journey.
I love meeting your people, helping everyone feel comfortable and capturing the connections that make your day special. Think parents, grandparents, siblings, close friends and the people you couldn't imagine celebrating without.
My tip: Prepare a short list of your must-have family groupings before the wedding.
Around 10–15 combinations can often take approximately 30 minutes,
depending on the number of people and how easily everyone gathers.
It also helps to ask one organised family member to assist with finding people when it's time for photographs.
But what if formal group photos aren't your thing? That's completely fine.
I can take a more documentary approach, blending into the background and capturing your guests naturally.
Your grandfather laughing at his own joke, the kids running across the lawn, your mum wiping away a happy tear or your friends sharing a moment on the dance floor. These are the little stories that make your wedding uniquely yours. And if you prefer a combination of organised family photos and candid moments, we can plan for both.
Couple Portraits: No Awkward Posing Required
Let's talk about the photographs of the two of you.
Some couples love spending time together away from the celebrations and want a collection of beautiful portraits. Others would rather keep things short and get back to their guests. Both approaches are wonderful.
Your wedding photography should reflect your personalities, not force you into a style that doesn't feel comfortable.
Here are three ways we can approach your couple portraits.
Option 1: A relaxed portrait session
We can set aside around 30–45 minutes for the two of you. I'll offer simple prompts to help you interact naturally.
We might take a walk, hold hands, whisper something silly or simply spend a few moments together.
No complicated poses or pressure to perform.
Just the two of you, enjoying the moment while I capture the connection between you.
Option 2: A little escape together
If you don't want to spend much time away from your guests, we can sneak away for 10–15 minutes.
It's a chance to breathe, take everything in and create a handful of beautiful portraits
without interrupting your celebrations for too long.
Option 3: Natural moments throughout the day
If you really don't enjoy being photographed,
we can keep dedicated couple portraits to a minimum or skip them altogether.
I'll focus on capturing you both naturally throughout the day:
The way you look at each other during the ceremony, a hand resting on a shoulder, a quiet embrace or a shared laugh during the speeches.
There is no pressure to spend your wedding day posing for photographs.
We'll work out what feels right for you.
Golden-Hour Portraits
The last hour before sunset creates the most beautiful, soft light.
The light is gentler and most flattering, depending on the weather and location.
Even 10 minutes together can be enough to create something special.
The Reception: Celebrating Your Way
Now it's time to relax, celebrate and enjoy being married!
Depending on your plans and photography coverage,
I'll capture the atmosphere and moments that make your reception memorable.
Think the entrance, heartfelt speeches, the cake cutting, your first dance,
spontaneous hugs and the dance floor once everyone lets loose.
Some couples love all the traditional moments.
Others prefer a relaxed celebration without a strict schedule.
Either way, I'll work with your plans and capture the moments that matter most to you.
If there's a special surprise, a meaningful tradition or something you're particularly excited about,
let me know beforehand so we can make sure it's part of the plan.
