Here are some tips to assist you to get your children ( and yourself ) ready
for a lovely, relaxed family photography session.
A few things to prepare beforehand
Get your wardrobe organised before the set date as that can prevent a lot of stress on the day. Get the kids involved in choosing their own clothes so they feel comfortable with what they are wearing. It also gets them more excited to be part of it.
I would recommend to bring some face cleaning wipes, as a professional high resolution camera will capture every tiny detail in a frame.
If you have smaller children make sure to have snacks, water and maybe a few treats like fruit or a lollipop on hand to cheer them up a little if needed.
Bring a picnic blanket, hats, sunnies a cuddly blanket, or a favourite toy / softtoy to be part of the photoshoot and it might give your child more confidence having those items with them.
If your kids like music upload their favourite playlist onto your phone to take.
Get your kids on board in advance
Before 1 or 2 weeks of your session, start chatting with your kids regarding the upcoming photoshoot and try to explain it to them.
Converse with them regarding how thrilling it is, how funny it can be for them as an activity. Talk about how much they will love looking at these special moments in an photobook or framend and mounted on a wall for them and everyone else to admire.
Quiet often families also plan a fun family outing after the photoshoot which can also help boost children’s mood.
Happy adults equal cheerful children
On the day of the photoshoot, choose to be upbeat and happy around your children .
Be open and have fun with your kids. If they like to tell stories and doing tricks, then cheer them up to boaster a little so that they remain engaged.
Also, ask them to inform the photographer about what they like or what their favourite hobbies are, or make them tell some jokes.
When children are telling a story they are proud of they show a wonderful authentic smile afterwards.
